Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding contract position as a Special Education Teacher serving high school students for the 2026/2027 academic year. This on-site opportunity offers the chance to work collaboratively with talented educators supporting students both in self-contained classrooms and co-taught settings. Create meaningful academic growth and foster a welcoming environment alongside a dedicated special education team.
What You'll Do:
Deliver targeted instruction and special education services in a self-contained high school classroom. Co-teach and collaborate with general education colleagues to provide inclusive educational support. Focus instruction on English Language Arts and Mathematics, with additional support for Social Studies and Science. Craft, implement, and monitor IEPs, ensuring goals and accommodations are met. Maintain thorough documentation and track student progress. Partner with families, administrators, and a multidisciplinary team to foster student success. Champion a positive, inclusive atmosphere for learners of diverse backgrounds.
Caseload Details:
Provide direct instruction and support to a small group of approximately 7-9 students in a self-contained setting. Collaborate during a co-taught classroom period with an additional group of 7-9 students. Engage consistently with another Special Education Teacher to ensure effective program delivery and student support.
Preferred Qualifications:
Active Illinois LBS1 (Learning Behavior Specialist I) License required. Experience with high school students in special education settings is highly valued. Skilled in IEP development, implementation, and monitoring. Proven ability to work effectively with both special education and general education staff.
