Category Schools - Visually Impaired Teacher Job Type Contract Embark on a rewarding contract opportunity making a meaningful difference for students as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) in the Savoy, IL area. This full-time role spans the 2026-2027 school year, offering 35 hours per week of dedicated work supporting K-12 learners with visual impairments. By collaborating closely with educational staff and families, you'll empower students to access curriculum, build critical skills, and thrive academically and socially in an inclusive setting.
Preferred qualifications and experience:
Valid teaching certification with a specialization in Visual Impairment. Previous experience as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired, ideally in a school setting. Strong understanding of Braille instruction, assistive technology, and adaptive strategies. Commitment to individualized education planning and accommodations. Excellent communication skills for interacting with students, staff, and parents. Flexibility and problem-solving skills in diverse educational environments.
Key responsibilities:
Deliver direct instruction to students with visual impairments across various grade levels and abilities. Assess student needs and develop appropriate Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and materials. Collaborate with classroom teachers to modify materials and integrate assistive technology for curriculum access. Provide consultation and support to staff and families regarding best practices and accommodations. Regularly monitor and document student progress, adjusting instructional strategies as necessary. Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal special education requirements.
