Job Description

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, active Special Education Teacher license and minimum 1+ years Special Education Teacher experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. Step into a rewarding role supporting middle school students with diverse learning needs for the 2026-2027 academic year as a Special Education Teacher. This contract position offers the unique opportunity to work half-days at two nearby middle schools, facilitating both co-taught and resource classes for 8th graders. With manageable class sizes of approximately 8-10 students in resource sessions, you'll make meaningful connections and impactful contributions.

Responsibilities:

Provide individualized and small group instruction in resource and co-taught classroom settings for 8th grade students Collaborate with general education teachers to deliver tailored support and differentiated instruction Develop and implement IEPs, monitor progress, and maintain documentation Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment Operate with autonomy while collaborating regularly with the special education team

Qualifications:

Valid LBSI (Learning Behavior Specialist I) certification in Illinois Strong, recent experience with resource supports and instructional strategies at the middle school level Confident working independently and adept at adjusting to varied classroom settings Excellent organizational and communication skills Comfortable traveling locally between two campuses approximately five minutes apart

Schedule & Duration:

Commitment runs from August 17, 2026, through May 28, 2027 (pending emergency days) Opportunity to attend new teacher orientation August 5-11, 2026, if onboarded early Standard contract hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 7:20 AM to 2:50 PM, and Wednesdays from 7:20 AM to 3:05 PM 35-hour work week with a daily 30-minute lunch This is a fantastic chance to engage deeply with students in a supportive community that prioritizes collaboration and innovation in special education.
