Full Job Description SUMMARY:
Community Unit School District 200 is seeking an Elementary Special Education - Instructional Level Teacher to teach a full range of assignments to students who have one or more disabilities by selecting and using appropriate training/ instructional material. Considerable judgment is needed to make decisions in carrying out these assignments. To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and /or ability required. CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT
(S): Current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 Endorsement
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
Understanding of student's special needs and ability to work effectively. Highly organized with effective interpersonal and communication skills. Prepare meaningful lesson plans that provide students with a general education curriculum. Good assessment skills. Ability to evaluate student's progress and provide remediation. Strong behavior management and positive discipline skills. Ability to function as a member of the educational team, collaborate with general educational staff, support personnel, community agencies and parents. Working knowledge of classroom management techniques, procedures and appropriate conduct. Knowledge of Syracuse curriculum and autism helpful. Ability to be flexible and receptive to change.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare, adapt and deliver instructional material in accordance with the student's needs. Teaches desirable habits by providing students with opportunities for which they are best suited. Establish and enforce rules of behavior to maintain and manage order in the classroom and school building. Participates with other professional staff in diagnosis of learning disorders, development of planned remediation and evaluation of student progress. Monitors and maintains student records and progress for review and revisions of IEP. Ability to effectively present and communicate student problems and progress and respond to questions from parents and staff. Supervises students in groups and individually in classroom, school buildings and social-curricular activities.
PHYSICAL ABILITY
Employees in this position must have the ability to: Sit for extended periods of time. Enter data into a computer, use standard office equipment and use telephone. See and read a computer screen and printed material with or without visual aids. Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone. Stand, walk and bend over, reach overhead, grasp, push and pull, lift and /or carry up to 25 pounds waist height. Occasional lifting or moving up to 100 lbs. may be required, such as lifting a child from the floor or moving children in wheelchairs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Hazards - Potential exposure to communicable disease and contact with blood and other body fluids; potential exposure to physical injury from aggressive behavior. The noise level is occasionally loud.
