Immediately Job Description Basehor-Linwood USD 458 is currently seeking a Structured Learning Classroom Special Education teacher for Gray Hawk Elementary School (grades K - 5) for the 2026-2027 school year. Applicants must hold or be eligible for a Kansas license in Adaptive Special Education. The Structured Learning Classroom (SLC) is for students who need intensive supports with predictable, consistent routines and structure throughout the school day to engage in learning activities in the following areas: communication, social skills, academic tasks, and behavior management. Students in the SLC typically exhibit a rigid regimen of thought and behavior. They have limited imaginative play, limited functional verbal or non-verbal communication skills, and difficulty in understanding emotions, gestures or ideas of others, which greatly hampers social relationships or successful spontaneous interactions in all environments. The person selected for this position will be responsible for providing the following for students: Clear visual and physical structure. Predictability in the learning environment through intense visual supports, consistent verbal commands, and an organized sequence of activities or events throughout the school day. An individualized visual/object schedule which the student and staff adhere to throughout the day. An individual workstation and work system for each student to reduce distractions during assigned tasks. Utilize multiple evidence-based methods. Proactively provides information to prepare them for any impending changes in routine or activity using social stories, pictures, or rehearsed distinct verbal phases. Intentionally teaches social rules/skills so that the student can successfully make requests, seek attention, and obtain preferred items in multiple contexts, direct teaching of self-regulation and coping skills. Address communication needs in every activity. Preference will be given to those applicants who have experience working in this type of setting or with similar types of students, as well as working knowledge of functional behavioral assessments and positive behavioral support plans.
General Responsibilities:
Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment for learning. Communicates with parents and counselors on a student's progress. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs. Participates in faculty committees and sponsorship of pupil activities. Maintains professional competence through in-service education provided by the district, and in self-selected professional growth activities related to elementary education. Ensures that all activities conform to district guidelines. Communicates effectively with all members of the school district and community. Works effectively with community organizations. Reacts to change productively and handles other tasks as assigned. Supports the value of education. Supports the mission and vision of USD #458. Keeps abreast of new information, best practices, innovative ideas, and techniques. Adheres to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan. Other duties as assigned by the Principal, or other Administrative Staff.
Physical Requirements:
Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in the work environment. Regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job is required. Must have physical stamina to maintain job responsibilities. 2. Requires occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and turning. Term of Employment:
10 months (188 Days); Academic school year as assigned.
