FTE Job Summary:
This role oversees the development, implementation, and maintenance of training, competency, and quality control programs for waived testing across Owensboro Health clinical sites. It ensures compliance with Joint Commission standards through policy development, site visits, and collaboration with clinic leadership, while serving as a technical resource and supporting accreditation readiness and regulatory compliance.
Job Responsibilities:
Directs training and competency programs for waived testing performed at Owensboro Health/Owensboro Health Medical Group clinical sites as needed. Develops training and competency materials specific to the needs of the location. Works with department and clinic leadership to ensure that orientation, initial training and annual competencies that are compliant with Joint Commission performance goals are completed for waived testing procedures Develops and drafts required policies and procedures for waived testing. Assists clinic leadership in maintaining, modifying, and reviewing policies and procedures. Develops and maintains a spreadsheet of all POC testing and locations to facilitate accountability of compliance with required waived testing requirements. Travels to clinic/outreach clinical sites as needed to maintain oversight. Serves as a resource to assist clinical sites in choosing waived testing that best fulfills their needs while working toward a goal of standardization of methodologies and processes. Participates in accreditation/survey events at these locations. Partners with clinic leadership to develop and implement an action plan and response to any deficiency identified during a regulatory/accreditation event. Assists clinic leadership in implementing a quality control program for any waived test performed that is compliant with Joint Commission performance goals and meets organizational quality requirements. Serves as a resource to answer technical questions and concerns related to waived testing. Participates in periodic mock survey/tracer events conducted by the organization to assess compliance with required regulatory standards.
Skills and Attributes:
Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment. Works under minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Position Requirements:
Work Experience A minimum of 2 years' relevant experience required Education Associate's degree or higher in Science or related field required upon hire AND Bachelor's degree or higher in Science or related field preferred Licensure/Certification/Registration MT
  • Certified as a Medical Technologist through American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) required upon hire OR MLS
  • Certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist through American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required upon hire OR CLS
  • Clinical Laboratory Scientist through American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) required upon hire OR MLT
  • Certified as a Medical Laboratory Technician through American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) required upon hire
