A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Organization Details Organization Information The mission of the Logan County School District is to enable all students to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to become successful, contributing citizens. Comprised of five PS-eighth schools and one central high school, the district serves approximately 3500 students and employs over 500 staff members. Our student-teacher ratio of 15:1 allows educators to address the needs of each student. Several resources are used to increase instructional and leadership capacity in teachers and students, including Response to Intervention (RTI) in reading and math and ACT study programs to prepare students for college. To meet the needs of 21st century learners, a district technology grant creates a technology-literate learning environment. All certified staff participate in professional development to prepare for the implementation of the Kentucky Core Academic Standards. Finally, all Logan County teachers and principals participate in the Instructional Rounds process.
