Job Description

Category Schools - Visually Impaired Teacher Job Type Contract Make a meaningful impact as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired, supporting students in the New Orleans area for the 2026-2027 school year. This contract position offers a dynamic opportunity to work with students across multiple age groups, providing educational services and support tailored to their needs. As an itinerant educator, you will travel to various school sites within the district, become an integral resource to faculty and staff, and ensure visually impaired students receive the highest standard of education and support.
Key Requirements:
Bachelor's degree and current Louisiana Department of Education teaching certification in visual impairment. At least three years of experience in elementary, secondary, and/or special education. Strong command of assistive technology for the visually impaired and ability to train others. Ability to provide Braille instruction; experience with orientation and mobility training is a plus. Excellent communication skills, adept at engaging with students, staff, and families. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for daily site travel. Must complete district-specific drug screening and fingerprinting as part of credentialing.
Primary Responsibilities:
Deliver direct instructional services to visually impaired students. Coordinate with general education teachers to adapt learning materials into accessible formats. Offer in-service training and guidance to school personnel to ensure student inclusion and success. Procure specialized textbooks and educational materials. Foster ongoing communication with the Louisiana Department of Education. Maintain flexibility and professionalism in managing a changing caseload and multiple priorities.
