Category Schools - Visually Impaired Teacher Job Type Contract Make a meaningful impact on students' lives as a skilled professional serving as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired for a rewarding contract role in the New Orleans area. In this dynamic, itinerant position, you'll support students across multiple campuses, collaborating directly with teams to deliver instruction and essential resources that empower visually impaired learners to reach their full academic and personal potential.
Key Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and valid Louisiana Department of Education certification for the visually impaired required At least three years of experience in elementary, secondary, and/or special education settings Proficiency in Braille instruction and advanced knowledge of assistive technology for students with visual impairments Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to inspire, train, and engage teachers, staff, and families Skilled at balancing multiple priorities, exercising sound judgment, and adapting to new challenges Familiarity with orientation and mobility training is preferred Must be able to provide personal transportation between school sites and meeting locations Successful completion of drug screen and fingerprinting required
Key Responsibilities:
Travel to school sites daily, delivering direct services aligned with individualized education plans Collaborate with classroom teachers to modify and prepare materials, ensuring accessibility for each student Provide training and resources to staff, facilitating a supportive and inclusive school environment Coordinate with local and state education departments to address student needs and ensure compliance Maintain accurate records, participate in multidisciplinary meetings, and stay updated on best practices in the field Additional duties as assigned by leadership Imagine joining a passionate group of educators making a difference every day.
