Job Description
BHS TRANSITIONS TEACHER, ESY PROGRAM POSITION OVERVIEW
The Transitions Teacher provides specialized instruction and support to high school students participating in an Extended School Year (ESY) program focused on maintaining skills, promoting independence, and preparing for post-secondary environments, including employment, education, and independent living. This role emphasizes individualized instruction, social-emotional development, and community-based learning experiences. The teacher will support students with diverse learning needs, including students with autism, through structured instruction, transition planning, and real-world learning opportunities.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Plan and deliver instruction aligned with students' IEP goals to maintain academic, functional, and behavioral skills Provide direct instruction in areas such as job readiness, self-advocacy, daily living skills, and social skills Develop, coordinate, and implement field trips and community-based learning experiences aligned with transition goals Accompany students and/or conduct site visits to community-based locations, including internships, volunteer placements, and job sites Support students in generalizing skills across school, community, and workplace settings Supervise and collaborate with paraprofessionals to support implementation of programming Coordinate and collaborate with related service providers and multidisciplinary team members Monitor student progress through data collection and maintain accurate documentation and progress reporting Maintain partnerships with community organizations and local businesses to support student opportunities Ensure student safety across school, community, and job-site environments Drive and operate school transportation (school van) to transport students to community-based learning experiences and job sites Safety Care trained and/or willingness to be trained Current authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employmentQUALIFICATIONS-PREFERRED
Massachusetts DESE licensure in Moderate or Severe Disabilities, 9-12, required Experience working with high school students with diverse learning needs, including students with autism Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills Experience with community-based instruction, life skills and transition planning preferred Must be able to safely travel with students and participate in off-site programming and community-based sitesSCHEDULE
July 6, 2026 - August 13, 2026 All staff report for a full day on July 6th for orientation and classroom set-up. Students begin on July 7th 9:00 - 2:00, Monday - Thursday Additional 30 minutes per day for planning One additional day, to be completed prior to the end of the program, allotted for progress report writing •All employees must be vaccinated and maintain full vaccination as a condition of employment or work as an on-site vendor/contractor, unless they receive approval for a documented medical or religious exemption in accordance with relevant state and/or federal law.
