A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.
Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting young learners in a dedicated, self-contained special education classroom. This position begins August 25, 2026, and continues through June 2027, offering full-time hours from 8:00am to 3:00pm, Monday through Friday. You'll work closely with a small caseload of 5-8 students in PK-2nd grade who have severe, multiple, physical, medical, and global developmental delays. Providing individualized instructional strategies, you'll also take a hands-on role in assisting with full personal care needs, including diaper changing and hygiene.
Key Qualifications and Requirements:
Active Massachusetts Special Education License required Experience working with students who have significant disabilities, including those needing high-level personal care Ability to develop and adapt lesson plans for a sub-separate/self-contained classroom environment Strong communication and collaboration skills with paraprofessionals, related service providers, and families Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive educational environment for early learners
Primary Responsibilities:
Design and deliver individualized instruction targeting IEP goals within a supportive, small-group setting Provide daily support with feeding, mobility, toileting, and personal hygiene as required by student needs Maintain accurate documentation on student progress, behavior, and health-related interventions Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate therapeutic, behavioral, and medical supports Participate in regular staff meetings, family conferences, and school-based events as needed This role is offered on a W-2 basis with weekly pay, access to 401k, and benefit package options designed to support your career and wellbeing.
