Immediately Job Description Anticipated Opening School Spring #5777056 The Special Education Tutor provides individualized and small-group instruction to students with disabilities, with a primary focus on literacy development using the Orton-Gillingham (OG) approach. This role supports students in developing foundational reading, writing, and spelling skills through structured, multi-sensory instruction aligned with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Times:
3-5 hours a week for 6 weeks Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver explicit, systematic, and multi-sensory reading instruction using Orton-Gillingham methodologies
  • Provide individualized and small-group tutoring to students with identified learning disabilities, including dyslexia
  • Implement and support goals and accommodations outlined in students' IEPs
  • Conduct ongoing progress monitoring and maintain detailed instructional records
  • Collaborate with special education teachers, general education staff, and related service providers
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and strategies for support at home
  • Adapt instructional materials to meet diverse learning needs
  • Reinforce phonemic awareness, decoding, encoding, fluency, and comprehension skills
  • Participate in team meetings, including IEP meetings when appropriate
  • Maintain a positive, structured, and supportive learning environment Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or related field (Master's preferred)
  • Certification or formal training in the Orton-Gillingham approach (e.g., Associate, Certified, or equivalent)
  • Experience working with students with learning disabilities, particularly in reading
  • Knowledge of dyslexia and evidence-based literacy instruction
  • Strong data collection and progress monitoring skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills Preferred Qualifications
  • Massachusetts Special Education licensure (if applicable to your setting)
  • Experience implementing structured literacy programs
  • Familiarity with assessment tools such as DIBELS, Wilson, or similar literacy screeners
  • Experience in a school-based or tutoring setting Work Environment
