South Shore Conservatory seeks an exceptional Master Ballet Teacher to help strengthen and elevate its dance program through high-level classical ballet instruction rooted in excellent pedagogy, sound technical training, and artistic integrity. This is an important faculty position for SSC as we continue to build a dance department that serves students of all ages and abilities while also establishing a reputation for serious training and artistic excellence. The ideal candidate is an aplished ballet educator with the experience, presence, and technical knowledge to teach students from beginner through advanced levels, including those seeking rigorous study and strong technical preparation. The successful candidate will bring a deepmand of classical ballet technique, a structured and inspiring teaching approach, and the ability to nurture students of all levels. They will be expected to uphold high standards in placement, alignment, musicality, artistry, and classroom structure, while helping create an environment w students can grow with confidence, joy, and purpose. Preferred candidates may bring recognized training or certification in major ballet methodologies such as ABT, RAD, Vaganova, Cecchetti, or Balanchine-based pedagogy, along with professional performance experience and a record of strong student oues. Responsibilities - Essential Functions and Skills Teach high-quality ballet classes for students of varying ages and levels, from young beginners through advanced dancers. Deliver rigorous, developmentally appropriate instruction that builds proper technical foundations in alignment, placement, turnout, coordination, strength, musicality, and artistry. Teach with the skill and discernment to support all level students including both recreational students and highly motivated students seeking more serious training. Create structured lesson plans and class progressions that reflect strong pedagogy and a clear understanding of technical development over time. Assess student readiness for level placement, pointe work, and advancement in collaboration with SSC dance leadership. Maintain a positive, structured, and inspiring classroom environment that promotes respect, focus, consistency, and student growth. Communicate effectively and professionally with students, families, faculty, and staff. Support the artistic goals of the Dance Department through participation in rehearsals, performances, demonstrations, special events, and faculty meetings as appropriate. Contribute to the overall strength and reputation of SSC's dance program by modeling excellence in teaching, professionalism, and artistic standards. Collaborate with the Artistic Director of Dance on curriculum alignment, student development, and departmental growth. Remain current in ballet pedagogy, safe dance practices, and age-appropriate training methods.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Dance or a related field, or equivalent professional training and experience. Candidates must have a minimum of 5-10 years of substantial experience in ballet instruction and/or professional performance. Demonstrated experience teaching diverse age groups and proficiency levels is strongly preferred. Demonstrated expertise in classical ballet pedagogy and technique. Strong preference for candidates with advanced pedagogical certification or formal training in recognized ballet methodologies such as ABT, RAD, Vaganova, Cecchetti, orparable systems. Professional performance experience with a balletpany, conservatory, college program, or equivalent professional setting strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to teach proper technique clearly, consistently, and safely. Ability to identify and develop talent while remaining weing and effective with students of all backgrounds and abilities. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and writtenmunication skills. Reliable transportation required; ability to teach at both Hingham and Duxbury campuses strongly preferred. Locations Hingham Campus (1 Conservatory Drive, Hingham, MA 02043) and Duxbury Campus (64 Saint Ge Street, Duxbury, MA 02332).
Additional Information:
This is a part-time role that will spend time on both campuses of South Shore Conservatory. The hourly rate is $58/hr.
