Aug 26, 2026 Job Description Cotting School is seeking the next teacher who will be a perennial student favorite. Based out of a large workshop and maker space, the Applied Technology & Design Teacher will engage students in hands-on learning across areas such as design, woodworking, horticulture, and mechanical repair. Working with students ages 3-22, this teacher will create meaningful, accessible learning experiences that build independence, confidence, and real-world skills. The goals of this position include helping students generalize skills, strengthen self-determination, develop practical life skills, and explore new areas of interest that may inform future vocational pathways.
Responsibilities:
Plan and teach woodworking classes across multiple levels (lower, middle, and high school), differentiating instruction to meet diverse learning profiles Plan and teach horticulture and environmental learning experiences, including indoor and outdoor projects Design and implement engaging electives (independently or collaboratively) aligned with student interests and IEP goals Integrate functional academics, executive functioning, and social-emotional learning into hands-on instruction Support classroom teams and related service providers in addressing IEP goals through applied, experiential learning Collaborate with the Transition Department to develop pre-vocational and vocational skills in areas such as carpentry, horticulture, and basic mechanical repair Maintain a safe, organized, and well-equipped workshop/maker space, including tool safety instruction and adherence to all safety protocols Differentiate instruction using assistive technology, adaptive tools, and multi-sensory approaches to ensure access for all learners Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (teachers, therapists, families) to support students' holistic development Partner with other specialist teachers to create integrated, cross-disciplinary learning opportunities Supervise and support students during arrival, dismissal, lunch, and other parts of the school day as needed Serve as a chaperone for two or more school events annually (e.g., athletics, dances, field trips)
