Archbishop Carroll is seeking a Choir Teacher/Director for the 2026-2027 school year
Choir Director MISSION:
Archbishop Carroll High School is a Catholic, college preparatory, co-educational school in the heart of Washington, DC. JOB SUMMARY
Position is responsible for instructing secondary school students in the field of choral music and creating a safe and orderly learning environment. Position motivates students to develop an interest in and an appreciation of the art of music. Position develops knowledge, skills, and talents of students in the field of music, utilizing a variety of instructional techniques appropriate to students interests and abilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Past experience with theater and/or actual involvement in theatrical productions.

Knowledge of all aspects of a theatrical program.

Knowledge of methods for teaching acting and the theater process.

Ability to motivate youngsters and gain their respect.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesInstructs secondary school students in developing knowledge and skills in choral music Enables students to develop an appreciation of the art of music.

Demonstrates techniques to students in choral music concepts.

Develops clear and concise instructional lesson plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of preparation, instruction, and rehearsal time.

Provides individual and small group instruction and adapts the curriculum to the needs of students with varying abilities.

Uses a variety of instructional techniques and musical repertoire appropriate for the ages and skill level of students.

Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior and creates a safe, orderly, and effective environment for learning during practice, group rehearsals, and musical performances.

Arranges opportunities for students to present musical performances both during and after school hours.

Plans, rehearses, and directs students in musical programs for the school and community.

Instructs students in the proper care and use of equipment.

Organizes storage areas and controls the use of materials and equipment to prevent loss, abuse, injury, or security breach.

Maintains an organized and workable inventory of all music and equipment related to the choral program.

Makes minor adjustments to musical equipment and requests repairs as appropriate.

Evaluates student performance and growth in knowledge and understandings and prepares regular progress reports.

Conferences regularly with parents/guardians regarding behavior observations and the performance of students.

Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.

Maintains thorough records for each student.

Selects, requisitions, and maintains books, instructional materials, and instructional aids.

Models non discriminatory practices in all activities.

Other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate: Has at least a Bachelor's degree in a related fieldHas teaching experience, preferably in an urban, high school setting.

Is certified to teach in MD, DC, or VA or is willing to gain certification within three yearsDemonstrates strong writing and communication skills, a capacity for organization and follow-through, collaboration, and flexibility.

Has a growth mindset and a commitment to meeting the needs of every student in a diverse population.

Is committed to his/her own learning and professional development.
Minimum Educational Requirements:
Bachelors degree in content areas they wish to teach with a commitment to social justice and working with high school students
Minimum Experience Requirements:
Teaching experience and teacher certification are preferred, but teachers must be certified 3 years from the hire date.
Other Requirements:
The ideal candidate must have knowledge of the Catholic faith, beliefs, and practices along with a thorough understanding of and commitment to the educational mission of the Archdiocese of Washington, and the vision of Archbishop Carroll High School.

The candidate must possess a positive attitude; good communication skills, a collaborative leadership style; sensitivity to working in a diverse, multicultural environment.
