Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Step into an impactful opportunity this summer as a Special Education Teacher supporting an Extended School Year (ESY) program. Two positions are available, providing the chance to work closely with high school students in a supportive and collaborative educational environment. Ideal candidates are dedicated professionals who excel in fostering growth and ensuring continuity of learning during the ESY session. This contract position is designed with flexibility in mind: work Monday through Thursday for just four hours each day (8:00am-12:00pm), making a meaningful difference while maintaining work-life balance. These are in-person roles focusing exclusively on a high school caseload.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
Hold a valid Maine teaching license in Special Education Previous experience as a Special Education Teacher, especially with high school students, preferred Strong understanding of IEP processes and differentiated instruction Ability to develop creative, individualized learning strategies Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Responsibilities:
Provide direct instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs during the ESY program Implement and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) Assess student progress and adapt instruction as needed Maintain timely and accurate documentation Collaborate with related service providers, staff, and families to create a positive learning atmosphere This role offers a unique opportunity to stay engaged over the summer while helping students achieve their academic and social goals in a focused, in-person setting.
