Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Embark on your next professional adventure as a Special Education Teacher in a vibrant Maine community for the 2026-2027 school year. This full-time contract opportunity welcomes both local educators and experienced travel professionals eager to make a lasting impact in diverse learning environments. You'll play a vital role partnering with students, faculty, and families to foster growth, independence, and achievement.
Qualifications & Experience:
Valid Special Education (282) Teaching License required. Demonstrated experience or training in resource classrooms, 1:1 case management, or both. Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Commitment to inclusive practices and individualized instruction.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Develop, implement, and modify Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student's needs. Manage a flexible caseload based on your expertise, with no more than 15-20 students for resource classrooms or 8-10 for 1:1 caseloads. Create structured, engaging, and supportive learning environments that promote student success. Work closely with general education staff and related service providers to ensure cohesive support for all learners. Monitor progress, maintain documentation, and communicate regularly with families. Actively participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team collaborations.
