A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

POSITION
Special Education Teacher
LOCATION
Charlotte Middle School
ASSIGNMENT/RESPONSIBILITY
A strong teacher leader to assist in fostering student growth in a special education resource room for middle school students identified as eligible for special education services. Strong curricular knowledge regarding English Language Arts as well as a clear understanding of appropriate interventions and accommodations. Assist in developing, facilitating, and conducting, monitoring and adjusting instructional opportunities for students. Complete necessary paperwork, documentation, narrative reports, correspondence and evaluation measures to assure all free and appropriate public education (FAPE) requirements are met in a professional and timely manner.
QUALIFICATIONS
: Valid Michigan teaching certificate with special education endorsement. Knowledge and skill in commonly used approaches to educating Special Services students. Able to meet state and federal guidelines to be considered "Highly Qualified." Knowledge of requirements of state and federal mandates which directly affect student programming.
