Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Job Description

Position Summary:
Provides care for residents, such as assistance with toileting, transferring, bathing, feeding, et cetera. Performs housekeeping and laundry tasks and kitchen tasks as assigned. Administers medical treatments and prescribed/over-the-counter medications, as ordered by a physician. Medications and treatments are administered according to company policies and procedures. Ensure residents are treated with dignity and respect and receive quality care according to individualized care plans.
Responsibilities:
  • Assists residents with activities of daily living. The following are unique to this position:
  • Assists residents with bathing, hair care, mouth care, nail care, dressing, et cetera.
  • Assists residents with ambulation, which includes reminding and supporting.
  • Assists and encourages residents to eat and take sufficient fluids and snacks.
  • Assists residents with turning repositioning, toileting, and personal hygiene (includes monitoring of bowel and bladder incontinence).
  • Observes and reports resident behaviours and condition changes—including weight change and signs of injury or neglect.
  • Participates in or leads leisure activities as planned by Activities Coordinator.
  • Assists and reminds residents to participate in facility activities.
  • Assists with all aspects of kitchen and dining room tasks associated with resident meals, including prep work,
  • serving, cleaning up, setting tables, taking out trash, et cetera.
  • Performs general housekeeping/laundry tasks and related duties.
Ø Responsible for reviewing medication records daily. Checks medication administration record (MAR) for accuracy. Ensures exchange of appropriate information with Resident Care Manager/Coordinator concerning any orders for medication change or any identified errors. Ø Checks incoming medication container labels against physician orders to ensure medication is for the correct resident, as assigned. Checks to ensure medication containers received from the pharmacy are labelled with the correct resident's name, correct drug, correct dosage, correct route, and correct frequency of administration. Ø Administers prescribed medications as ordered. Documents medication administration according to policy and procedure. Ø Coordinates ordering and re-ordering of medications as assigned by Administrator or Resident Care Manager/Coordinator. Ø Interacts with families and participates in facility or community activities. Ø Assists with ensuring a safe environment for residents, families, and co-workers. Ø Aware of performance improvement plan and quality initiatives being measured at facility. Ø Participates in data collection and performance improvement reporting processes, as assigned. Ø Attends educational in-services. Ø Maintains ethical standards. Ø Displays a caring, respectful attitude when addressing residents, family members, and co-workers. Ø Ensures confidentiality of resident health information in accordance with HIPAA. Ø Compliant with attendance policy. Ø Attends scheduled staff meetings. Ø Support, reinforce, communicate, and defend the mission, vision, values, philosophy, and culture of the organization. Participate in monthly on-call rotation

From $15.00 per hour
