Job Description

Mighty Oaks Homeschool Co-op is a warm, community-centered Waldorf-inspired program in Clarkston, Michigan. We are physically located at Acorn Kinderhouse preschool, our sister school, and we partake in festivals and school life together. Our program emphasizes holistic child development, imaginative play, artistic expression, and seasonal rhythms. Parents actively participate in the classroom and school life, fostering strong partnerships between families, mentors, and the teacher. We are seeking a dedicated, imaginative teacher to guide a small mixed-ability group of second-grade children (ages ~7-8) in a Waldorf-inspired setting. The role involves leading main lessons and creating a rhythmic, artistic daily experience three days per week. Parents provide initial curriculum outlines and ongoing mentoring support, allowing the teacher to focus on delivery, classroom harmony, and child development.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead engaging Waldorf-inspired main lessons in language arts (fables, legends, storytelling, and writing), mathematics through movement, hands-on activities, and form drawing, and nature studies with seasonal themes Establish and maintain a consistent daily and weekly rhythm aligned with Waldorf principles Support students' social-emotional growth and foster classroom harmony Collaborate closely with co-op parents and mentors Communicate regularly with families about student progress Participate in school festivals, events, and occasional planning meetings
Qualifications:
Experience teaching in a Waldorf or Waldorf-inspired setting (preferred) Formal Waldorf teacher training or strong willingness to pursue training/mentoring with our experienced mentors and parents Warm, empathetic classroom management style rooted in respect for the child Ability to thrive in a collaborative parent-led co-op environment Creativity, artistic sensibility, and a deep understanding of child development at ages 7-8 Excellent communication and organizational skills
Compensation:
Base Pay:
$25
  • 30 per hour, based on experience and training level
Schedule:
15 in-class hours per week (9:00 AM
  • 1:30 PM, 3 days/week, including lunch) + up to 4 paid prep hours per week (capped; submitted weekly)
Weekly Total:
Approximately $475
  • 570 (depending on final hourly rate) First-Year Annual Base (36 weeks): $17,100
  • 20,520
Bonuses & Incentives:
  • $1,000 one-time signing bonus after successful 90-day probation/review
  • $1,500 end-of-year retention bonus (Year 1), paid at the start of the next school year after completing 90 days into the following grade/program
  • First-year total potential: Up to $19,600
  • 23,020 (base + bonuses)
  • Automatic 10% wage increase for Year 2 + repeat retention bonus Additional festival/event time will be discussed and supported (possible stipend or extra approved prep hours) All pay is hourly with weekly/monthly direct deposit; bonuses paid as regular income.
