A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Requirements:
Active Michigan Teacher Certification Learning Disabilities (LD) endorsement preferred Emotional Impairment (EI) and/or Cognitive Impairment (CI) endorsements strongly preferred MDE Endorsement ZA (Early Childhood) plus one additional Special Education endorsement may be considered Strong understanding of Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE) and IDEA regulations preferred

Full-Time:
35 hours per week Onsite Position K-12 caseloads available, varies by district needs Interviews conducted remotely Self-contained classrooms serve up to 22 students Pay rate up to $44/hour
