A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Kearsley Community Schools The Position Qualified candidates must possess a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university and an appropriate State of Michigan Teaching Certificate with at least one of the following endorsements: Autism (SV); Cognitive Impairment (SA); Emotional Impairment (SE); Learning Disability (SM). The qualified candidate will use creative instructional strategies along with best practices for classroom teaching which promotes interactive learning and student engagement through technology, literature, and writing. The candidate must be adept with technology and ready to consider emergent techniques to enhance student achievement.Candidates will also:
Plan, organize, and provide instruction to students in both individual and small groups within a resource/inclusion room environment; Demonstrate ability to design and implement effective instruction; Main appropriate and accurate records; Adapt general education, special curriculum, support materials, and instruction strategies to meet individual student learning styles; Serve in a consultative capacity with individuals and groups, including teachers, parents, and students; Coordinate and attend MET and IEPT meetings for students assigned to your claseload; Knowledge of disabilities and their educational implications; Working knowledge of special education state and federal laws, rules, and regulations; Demonstrate mental/physical ability and stamina for the requirements of the position.
