What they do

A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

26.5 hours per week
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with education related training Teaching certificate Reading endorsement preferred Experience with elementary reading instruction Ability to assist students to achieve academic success Implement and monitor the learning support program Use data to determine needs and effectiveness of initiatives Ability to work effectively with students, staff and parents Understand the developmental needs of elementary school students Self-motivated, dependable, responsible, flexible, independent and resourceful worker Effective use of relevant technology Ability to maintain confidentiality Must sign a confidentiality agreement Must sign a technology agreement Must be available and able to perform duties of job position Requires lifting Part time - 26.5 hour per week position.
Description:
Work with Elementary School students who are struggling with reading Organize lessons/activities for small groups Collaborate with elementary general education teachers Maintain accurate records of individual student progress Communicate with parents about student progress Designing a creative schedule to maximize the number of students while maintaining small groups
