At the appropriate Step on the Salary Schedule of the Master Agreement Plus $6,000 annual stipend (based on Center/District split)Position Summary :
The ASD Consultant teacher provides support for instructional programs with general and special education teachers and staff for students with Autism. The ASD Teacher Consultant will coordinate with out of district center programs and serve as the district liaison. They may also serve on the assessment team for most initials, 3-year multidisciplinary evaluations and participate in Student Support Team process (building process that serves as a resource to other staff members relative to ASD.) The ASD Teacher Consultant will provide services across the district as well as in the center program. The ASD Teacher Consultant reports to the Director of Special Education.Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with Autism (SV) endorsement, required Master's degree or higher in Special Education or related field Show evidence of a minimum of 3 years of satisfactory teaching experience, not less than 2 years of which shall be teaching in a special education program\ Knowledge and experience with writing and facilitating IEPS, assisting teachers with systems for progress monitoring. Impeccable communication skills; both verbal and written Strong assessment background, including test selections, administration and interpretation relative to Special Education eligibility Extensive experience with, and knowledge of, behavior management principles Extensive experience with, and knowledge of, curriculum adaptations and assistive technology Demonstrated effective consultation skills, including familiarity with MTTS models and a wealth of research based instructional strategies to address the academic and behavioral needs of students with autism Evidence of outstanding organizational and leadership skills, including solid understanding and meticulous observance of district procedures, state requirements and federal regulations; demonstrated ability to prioritize education paperwork; ability to lead diverse teams to consensus; and productive relationships with parents, coworkers, administration and external resources The ability to provide leadership/mentoring to peers and parents relative to the requirements of IDEA and Michigan's Special Education rules Ability to deescalate individuals with physical aggression Ability to withstand the strain of the position Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptableResponsibilities:
Provides consultant support services to students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) NCI trained or willingness to be NCI trained Provide training to Paraprofessionals Provide trainings to staff and parents regarding best practices for students with autism spectrum disorders Supports staff with materials/support needed for including students with autism spectrum disorder in general education Works collaboratively with building principals, general education teachers, special education teachers and paraprofessionals working with students with autism spectrum disorder Works collaboratively with parents of students with autism disorders Works collaboratively with educators in the design of visual schedule, behavior plans, academic supports, communication systems and assistive technology Maintain regular and punctual attendance Provides direct instruction in classrooms when needed in the absence of a teacher. Performs other duties as assigned by the Special Education Director This position is classified as Exempt (or Nonexempt) Employment is contingent upon disclosure in accordance with PA-189. Ability to withstand the strains and successfully manage the responsibilities of the position. Must demonstrate reliability and punctuality, with a strong record of consistent attendance. Regular and dependable presence during school hours is essential.
