A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Academic Year Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Education and a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate as required by MDE; OR Bachelor's Degree and enrollment in a state approved program leading to teacher certification as required by MDE. SV endorsement
Preferred:
Previous classroom teaching experience in a comparable district.

Salary/Benefits:
Commensurate with credentials and level of experience and in accordance with MPS salary schedule. Full-time with benefit package. Starting range $53,887-$78,454. Medical, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurance coverage offered. Eligible for Michigan ORS retirement plan for public school employees.
