QUALIFICATIONS
• Michigan Certification and Highly Qualified status as an elementary special education teacher
Preferred Certification:
(SV) Autism, (SM) Learning Disabilities, (SE) Emotional Impairment, and/or (SA) Cognitive Impairment Experience teaching or working with secondary aged special needs students Ability to work effectively with instructional staff, implementing appropriate classroom instruction and management techniques for all student classifications Ability to work and contribute effectively within a team structure, i.e. coordinating with ancillary personnel such as social worker, psychologist, etc. Demonstrated leadership and initiative advocating and coordinating required student services Sensitivity to the needs of students, parents and educational personnel Excellent written and verbal communication skills Understanding of Common Core State Standards Ability to effectively plan and deliver quality instruction in-person and/or virtually, as needed Ability to use Atlas and Schoology (learning management system) consistent with the District curriculum and instructional expectations Ability to appropriately integrate classroom technology and assistive technology within instruction Use of effective practices for working with students of all ability levels, able to differentiate instruction Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement Extensive knowledge of effective systems of student data collection and application (preferred) Effective use of balanced assessment (formative and summative) Understanding of classroom strategies and systems of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support - MTSS
RESPONSIBILITIES
(include but are not limited to): • Plan and deliver appropriate individualized instruction for caseload students based upon IEP goals and objectives, with access to general education curriculum Effectively plan and deliver quality instruction Utilize Atlas and Schoology consistent with the District curriculum and instructional expectations Collaborate with general education teachers to support the learning of both general education and special education students Provide consultative support to teachers Ensure that appropriate staff are aware of all IEP services and goals Assist staff in assessing, developing and maintaining individual educational/behavioral plans Function as a member of an inter-disciplinary team providing diagnostic, prescriptive and educational programming for special education and general education students Instruct students of all ability levels using the District curriculum and IEP goals and objectives Conduct work in a manner that demonstrates a commitment to professional practice and conduct Work to further develop the curriculum and seek innovative, engaging and motivating instructional approaches Function as a collaborative and contributing team member within the school environment Frequently communicate with students, parents, teachers, ancillary staff and administrators regarding student progress and other related matters Monitor, assess and report student progress toward learning targets and curriculum Maintain a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning Implement useful progress monitoring assessment measures Effectively use multiple forms of assessment and progress data to plan -guide instruction and inform the learner Establish a cooperative and supportive relationship with all students Foster a sense of appreciation and enthusiasm for the instructional content areas Engage in professional growth activities through an ongoing program of job-related knowledge and skill development Accurately meet all mandated special education documentation and reporting in a timely manner Contribute and participate in efforts related to school and District goals Comply with all policies and procedures of the District Take direction from the building and District administration Reflect the core values of Northville Public Schools Demonstrate the ability to accept and apply feedback Demonstrate the ability to think critically and work in teams as well as independently Demonstrate regular and predictable in-person attendance Perform other duties as assigned by the administration
