Moderate Cognitive Impairment Summary:

To provide the highest quality classroom instruction for students with disabilities whose needs can best be met in a structured Intermediate School District classroom program. The teacher is responsible for planning and implementing the Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university. Valid Teaching certificate with special education endorsement with a CI endorsement or the ability to obtain temporary approval. Meet all of the general skill requirements found in MARSE R340.1781, in conjunction with those of

Reports To:

School Principal Responsibilities:

Prepares progress reports, Individualized Education Program forms, classroom observation records, and other required documentation. Provides a basic core program for students, including curriculum, lessons, and special education programming and teaching methods. Maintains attendance and evaluation records for classroom students. Evaluates student's progress based on work output and observation, and determines goals and objectives. Exemplifies effective and research-based teaching strategies, methods, and practices that enhance the student's learning environment. Works collaboratively with fellow teachers, ancillary staff, outside agencies, and other ISD personnel. Plans individualized educational programs designed to meet student's needs and state and federal laws. Establishes a structured classroom to ensure the safety of each student. Leads and provides direct oversight of classroom paraprofessionals Maintains professional, positive, and productive relationships with the student's parents, teachers, and administrators. Refers students for observation to members of the support staff which included Speech Therapists, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, School Psychologists and School Social Workers, when appropriate and necessary. Participates in the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) evaluation, the development and implementation of Individualized Education Program (IEPs) meetings, and committee/staff meetings held in relation to program operation. Effectively manages students' health, personal care, and safety, including health care plans. Completes Medicaid and other paperwork as appropriate.
