A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER-TRANSITIONS
Teaches transitions classes, including prerequisite skills in the areas of employment, post secondary education and independent living while incorporating social skills, as well as high school transition electives; reports on transition activities; collaborates with the transitions department team and develops relevant Community Based Instruction (CBI) for students throughout the school year.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Possession of a valid Minnesota Teaching License in Special Education Ability to operate a computer and the software necessary to complete the required job tasks
PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
If not currently or appropriately licensed, must be willing and eligible to apply for and receive an Out of Field Permission or Tier 1 or Tier 2 Teaching License In process of gaining ASD Licensure or hold certificate with willingness to pursue licensure Work Based Learning Licensure PEERS School Based Certified Provider or willingness to be trained Experience, interest and/or expertise working with students on the autism spectrum, varied learning styles and levels of mastery
