Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Step into a dynamic, flexible role supporting students with diverse needs as a substitute special education teacher. This strictly on-call opportunity is ideal for educators who value adaptability and have a passion for making a meaningful impact across all grade levels, from Early Childhood through High School. You'll fill in for full-time special education teachers during absences—whether planned or on short notice—ensuring continuity of care and instruction in a supportive, well-respected district.
Qualifications:
Valid Minnesota Special Education Teaching Certification (please attach certification and resume—submissions without both documents cannot be considered) Experience working in special education settings with various student needs and age groups is highly desirable Ability to adapt quickly to new environments and student caseloads Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with staff, students, and families Dependable and responsive, with a commitment to stepping in as needed
Responsibilities:
Provide effective instruction, support, and guidance to students with exceptionalities in the absence of regular staff Adapt to a wide range of classrooms, grade levels, and learning needs, potentially covering Early Childhood through High School Implement IEPs, modify lessons, and maintain classroom management in alignment with district policies Collaborate with other educators and administrators to ensure seamless transitions for students Maintain accurate records and communication during assignments This assignment offers a per diem schedule Monday through Friday for the 2026-2027 school year. You'll only work—and be compensated—when called in to cover for a direct hire or contract special education teacher, providing freedom and flexibility within the academic calendar.
