Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding contract opportunity as a Special Education Teacher supporting elementary students (K-5) in a vibrant, diverse school community located near Independence, MO. This year-long assignment, running from August 11, 2026 through May 28, 2027, offers the chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students with a variety of learning needs within a single, supportive school environment. While you'll be working at a French Immersion school, there's no requirement to speak French—just bring your expertise and passion for inclusive education. In this role, you'll work with a mixed caseload of mild to moderate needs, delivering individualized instruction and collaborating with a dedicated team of educators and support staff. With regular hours (8 hours per day, Monday through Friday), you'll have the structure and consistency to build strong relationships and see progress throughout the academic year.
Ideal candidates bring:
Valid Special Education teaching certification Experience working with elementary-aged students (K-5) Strong understanding of IEP development, implementation, and progress monitoring Commitment to differentiated instruction and inclusive practices Excellent communication and collaboration skills Adaptability to work with a mixed caseload Key responsibilities include: Designing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) that address diverse learning needs Delivering engaging instruction in both resource and inclusive settings Tracking student progress, adjusting strategies as necessary, and maintaining accurate records Fostering a positive, supportive learning environment Collaborating with classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, and families Candidates can expect competitive hourly compensation, ranging from $40-45 based on experience.
