Category Schools - Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist Job Type Contract Step into an impactful role dedicated to advancing communication and educational access for elementary students as an American Sign Language (ASL) Teacher and Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist for the upcoming 26/27 academic year. This part-time, contract position features a unique opportunity to shape the early development of an ASL program, supporting one elementary student initially with the potential to serve a growing caseload as interest in the program increases.
Key Qualifications & Desired Experience:
Certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing, or related specialist credentials. Proficiency in American Sign Language required; experience teaching ASL to children preferred. Previous work with deaf or hard of hearing students in a school setting is highly valued. Strong interpersonal and communication skills for collaborating with students, families, and school staff. Patience, adaptability, and a commitment to inclusion and individualized instruction.Your Responsibilities:
Provide engaging ASL instruction and direct support to one elementary student, personalizing lessons based on individual needs and learning styles. Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that foster language acquisition and build ASL fluency. Serve as an advocate and resource for deaf or hard of hearing students, ensuring the provision of accessible educational opportunities. Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and families to integrate ASL and related supports into the broader educational environment. Monitor student progress, assess communication growth, and record ongoing documentation. Adjust caseload and instructional strategies as more students join the ASL program throughout the school year.
