Job Description The Alternative Learning Placement/In-School Suspension (ALP/ISS) Teacher & Credit Recovery Coordinator provides a structured and supportive learning environment for students assigned to ALP/ISS and supervises the school's credit recovery program. The position ensures that students remain academically engaged while assigned to ALP/ISS and provides support, accountability, and intervention to help students successfully return to the regular classroom. The employee also works with counselors, teachers, and administrators to help students recover credits and remain on track for graduation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ALP/ISS

Supervise students assigned to Alternative Learning Placement and In-School Suspension. Maintain a safe, structured, orderly, and academically productive environment. Coordinate with classroom teachers to ensure students receive appropriate assignments and instructional materials. Provide academic assistance and support as students complete assigned coursework. Monitor student attendance, behavior, work completion, and academic progress. Reinforce school expectations for behavior, attendance, and academic responsibility. Help students reflect on behaviors or decisions that resulted in their placement and develop strategies for successful return to the regular classroom. Identify students with repeated ALP/ISS placements and communicate concerns to administrators and appropriate student support personnel. Maintain accurate records of student placements, attendance, behavior, and academic work. Credit Recovery Coordinate and supervise the school's credit recovery program. Work with school counselors and administrators to identify and enroll eligible students. Maintain accurate records of student enrollment, courses, progress, and completion. Monitor student participation and progress in credit recovery coursework. Provide academic assistance, encouragement, and accountability to participating students. Establish completion goals and timelines with students. Communicate concerns regarding student progress to counselors, administrators, students, and families as appropriate. Ensure appropriate supervision and academic integrity of the credit recovery program. Work with counselors to verify successful course completion and credit attainment. Support students in understanding graduation requirements and the importance of remaining on track for graduation. Student Support and Collaboration Develop positive relationships with students while maintaining clear expectations and professional boundaries. Work collaboratively with administrators, counselors, teachers, student services personnel, and families. Refer students demonstrating significant academic, behavioral, attendance, or social-emotional concerns to appropriate school personnel. Participate in student support, MTSS, attendance, graduation, or other meetings as requested. Support schoolwide efforts related to student engagement, graduation, dropout prevention, and academic success. Maintain confidentiality and comply with applicable laws, policies, procedures, and professional standards. Perform other duties related to student support and school operations as assigned by the principal.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Must hold an appropriate North Carolina educator license. Ability to work effectively with high school students, including students experiencing academic or behavioral challenges. Effective classroom and student management skills. Ability to provide academic support across multiple subject areas. Ability to effectively use instructional technology and online learning platforms. Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Ability to maintain accurate records and confidential student information. Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, teachers, counselors, and administrators.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Previous middle or high school teaching experience. Experience working with academically at-risk or behaviorally challenged students. Experience with alternative education, ISS, credit recovery, dropout prevention, or student intervention programs. Knowledge of North Carolina high school graduation requirements. Experience with online or blended-learning programs.
