10 months Position Summary The Exceptional Children's (EC) Teacher is responsible for delivering a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment tailored to students with special needs. This role advances students' physical, intellectual, social, and emotional development through individualized instruction and evidence-based practices. The EC Teacher fosters positive relationships with students, families, and staff, promotes family engagement, and ensures compliance with all legal and educational requirements. Additionally, the EC Teacher provides leadership and mentorship to assistant teachers and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to optimize student outcomes. Responsibilities Assume primary responsibility for planning, implementing, and evaluating daily instructional programs tailored to students with diverse special needs. Develop, write, and maintain Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that are measurable, compliant with state and federal regulations, and aligned with student goals. Monitor and ensure effective implementation of IEPs, adjusting instructional strategies as necessary to meet student progress and needs. Utilize the Every Child Accountability & Tracking System (ECATS) to document student data, track progress, and generate reports. Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, families, and administrators to support inclusive practices and student success. Provide positive guidance and behavior management strategies that promote a safe, respectful, and productive classroom environment. Lead and support assistant teachers by providing training, resources, and guidance in classroom management, lesson planning, and instructional delivery. Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and behavior according to district policies. Participate in professional development activities to stay current with special education laws, instructional strategies, and assistive technologies. Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff to foster positive relationships and encourage active family involvement in education. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local special education regulations and district policies. Qualifications Valid North Carolina teaching license in Special Education required. Demonstrated knowledge of special education laws, IEP development, and instructional best practices. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams. Ability to use technology and data systems such as ECATS for documentation and progress monitoring. Experience in classroom leadership and mentoring support staff preferred.
