QUALIFICATIONS
N.C. Teacher Certification, EC Adaptative Licensure
B.A/B.S degree in teaching from an accredited institution or related field teaching
North Carolina State certification in teaching in appropriate subject areas.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Must have proven ability to report to work regularly and punctually.
Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program.
Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology.
Meet professional teacher education requirements of school, district, and state.

May coordinate activities of paraprofessionals and supervise teacher assistants.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning for students with disabilities following the general education curriculum or extended content standards.
Develops schemes of work, lesson plans, and assessments that are under established procedures.
Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
Develop data-based individualized education plans and other required paperwork for special education. Schedule, lead, and/or participate in parent conferences/IEP meetings, etc., as appropriate.
Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction and complete special education documents (IEP's, etc.)
Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and implementing individualized behavior plans.
Maintain discipline by the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
Provide appropriate feedback on work to parents and students as appropriate.
Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
Maintain accurate and complete records of student's progress and development.
Update all necessary records accurately and ultimately as required by laws, district policies, and school regulations. Prepare required reports on students and activities.
Participate in department, school, district, and parent meetings.
Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and needs.
Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
Prepare classroom and students for class activities and community-based experiences as appropriate.
Provide various learning materials and resources for educational activities in special education and general education settings as well as community-based settings.
Observe and evaluate student's performance and development.
Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
Direct and supervise teacher assistants in supporting and meeting the needs of students with disabilities.
Effectively collaborate and communicate with general educators in co-taught classrooms.
Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain parental information when requested, promptly return phone calls, and answer emails.
Participate in appropriate professional activities.
Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and operate a computer, hand-held learning devices, and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Ten-month year. Salary by certification and placement on the adopted schedule.
