Assignment Experience (What You Can Expect)

Support students who are deaf or hard of hearing across a variety of educational settings
Provide direct instruction, consultation, and support services based on student needs
Exposure to a variety of grade levels (PreK-12 opportunities)
1-2 building placement when possible
Collaborative teams including Audiologists, Speech-Language Pathologists, Special Education Staff, Related Service Providers, and Administration
Opportunities to support students using assistive listening devices, communication systems, and specialized instructional strategies
Your Impact as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
You'll help students who are deaf or hard of hearing access their education, develop communication skills, and build the confidence and independence needed to succeed academically, socially, and beyond the classroom.
Core Responsibilities
Provide direct and consultative educational services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing
Support the development of language, communication, self-advocacy, and academic skills
Develop and implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and accommodations
Collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure access to curriculum and instruction
Support the use of hearing technology, assistive listening devices, and communication systems as appropriate
Monitor student progress and maintain required documentation
Participate in evaluations, IEP meetings, and multidisciplinary team planning
Partner with families, educators, audiologists, and related service providers to support student success
What We're Looking For
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, or a related field
Valid North Carolina teaching license in Deaf Education, Hearing Impairments, or eligibility to obtain North Carolina licensure
Knowledge of language development, hearing loss, and educational strategies for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
American Sign Language (ASL) proficiency preferred for positions where student needs require it
School-based experience preferred, but newer professionals are encouraged to apply
Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills
Passion for helping students access their education and reach their full potential
