Assignment Experience (What You Can Expect) (When available, ESS Clinical shares real assignment details early in the process) Support students with visual impairments across a variety of educational settings Conduct functional vision assessments and learning media assessments Exposure to a variety of grade levels (PreK-12 opportunities) 1-2 building placement when possible Collaborative teams including Orientation & Mobility Specialists, Special Education Staff, Related Service Providers, and Administration Opportunities to support students using Braille, assistive technology, and adapted materials Your Impact as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired You'll help students with visual impairments access their education, develop independence, and build the skills necessary for academic success and lifelong learning. Core Responsibilities Provide direct and consultative special education services to students with visual impairments Conduct Functional Vision Assessments (FVA) and Learning Media Assessments (LMA) Develop and implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and accommodations Teach Braille, assistive technology, compensatory skills, and other Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) areas as appropriate Collaborate with classroom teachers, families, related service providers, and school teams Adapt instructional materials and classroom environments to maximize student access Monitor student progress and maintain required documentation Participate in IEP meetings, evaluations, and multidisciplinary team planning What We're Looking For Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, Visual Impairment, or a related field Valid North Carolina teaching license in Visual Impairment or eligibility to obtain North Carolina licensure Certification as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TVI) preferred School-based experience preferred, but newer professionals are encouraged to apply Knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and accommodations for students with visual impairments Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills Passion for helping students access their education and achieve independence Compensation & Benefits ESS Clinical believes in supporting the whole professional — not just filling a role.
