Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding opportunity making a meaningful impact in the classroom as a Special Education Teacher. This contract role involves supporting students in both elementary and middle school settings within a collaborative team environment near Morganton, NC. You will work across two specialized classrooms:

Elementary Setting:

Manage a caseload of 6 students with individualized learning needs. Students require toileting assistance, but no feeding is necessary. Benefit from on-site support including a dedicated Teaching Assistant and a Behavior Technician.

Middle School Setting:

Oversee a group of 11 students. One student utilizes a feeding tube; remaining students may need mild assistance with behavior (no significant behavioral concerns). Some students require help with toileting. Work alongside a classroom teacher, three full-time Teaching Assistants, and a 1:1 support for the student with medical needs.

What We're Looking For:

Valid Special Education Teacher certification. Prior experience in special education, ideally across both elementary and middle school levels. Familiarity assisting with toileting and medical needs in a school environment. Strong communication and collaboration skills to partner with support staff. Compassion, organization, and a commitment to fostering inclusive learning.

Primary Responsibilities:

Create and implement individualized educational plans (IEPs). Adapt lessons to meet diverse learner needs. Foster a supportive atmosphere, collaborating with aides and specialists. Oversee daily routines, transitions, and specialized care as needed. Monitor progress, document observations, and engage with families and multidisciplinary teams.
