Immediately Job Description Substitute Teacher Description of Duties and Expectations
Reports To:
Principal/Assistant Principal
Purposes:
To present lesson plans in accordance with instructions provided by the teacher for the class assigned.
Responsibilities include:
lesson presentation, classroom management, and accurate reporting of classroom performance to the teacher or administration.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Management of Instructional Time The substitute teacher must have materials, supplies and equipment for each lesson ready at the start of the lesson or instructional activity; gets the class started quickly; gets students on task quickly at the beginning of each lesson; maintains a high level of student time-on-task. Management of Student Behavior The substitute teacher monitors class according to established rules and procedures of teacher; stops inappropriate behavior promptly and consistently, yet maintains the dignity of the student. Instructional Presentation The substitute teacher presents lessons or instructional activities in accordance to instructions and directions provided by the teacher for the class to which the substitute is assigned. Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance The substitute teacher maintains clear, firm and reasonable work standards previously established by the teacher; circulates during class work to check all students' performance. Instructional Feedback The substitute teacher provides feedback to the class on the correctness or incorrectness of in-class work in accordance with instructions provided by the teacher. Facilitating Instruction The substitute teacher presents lessons according to an instructional plan developed by teacher. Interacting within the Educational Environment The substitute teacher treats all students in a fair and equitable manner; interacts effectively with students, co-workers, parents, and community. Physical Requirements Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of fingering, grasping, kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.
