Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Make a difference each day by supporting students' growth and learning in a dynamic school environment on a contract assignment near Spruce Pine, NC. As a Special Education Teacher, you'll play a pivotal role in both elementary and middle school classrooms, fostering success for students with diverse needs.
What You'll Do:
Lead an elementary classroom with a small caseload of 6 students, providing specialized instruction tailored to individual education plans. Guide a middle school classroom serving 11 students, collaborating with support staff to ensure individualized attention for every child. Offer compassionate assistance with toileting for students who require it; feeding support is only needed for one student with a feeding tube in the middle school.
Collaborate with dedicated classroom teams:
Elementary:
1 teaching assistant and 1 behavior technician.
Middle school:
1 other teacher, 3 full-time teaching assistants, and a one-to-one aide for a student with medical needs. Maintain thorough and up-to-date documentation on student progress and communicate regularly with families and support staff. Create a positive, inclusive classroom atmosphere that supports social, emotional, and academic development.
What We're Seeking:
Special Education teaching experience, preferably in elementary and/or middle school settings. Ability to develop and adapt lessons for students with a range of abilities. Compassion and patience for assisting with toileting and personal needs. Comfortable working in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. Strong communication and organization skills.
