Location:
Discovery School, Statesville, NC Position Overview Halcyon Nurse Staffing is seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Education Teacher (SPED) / Exceptional Children Teacher to support students at Discovery School within the Iredell-Statesville School District . The Exceptional Children Teacher will work under the general supervision of the School Principal to maximize the learning experience of students with special needs. The teacher will support students academically, socially, behaviorally, and with activities of daily living while implementing district-approved curriculum and maintaining a safe, supportive learning environment. Qualifications & Requirements Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Exceptional Children Education, or a related field. Valid North Carolina Special Education/Exceptional Children (EC) teaching license or appropriate eligibility. Previous experience working with students with disabilities preferred. Knowledge of IEP development, implementation, and documentation . Experience with behavior management plans and individualized instruction. Strong classroom management and communication skills. Ability to assess student needs and monitor academic and behavioral progress. Ability to collaborate with school administrators, teachers, parents, and outside agencies. Strong organizational and documentation skills. Commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment. Essential Responsibilities Implement district-approved curriculum and provide individualized instruction based on student needs. Conduct assessments, testing, and diagnostic evaluations to identify learning needs and recommend appropriate interventions. Participate in IEP meetings and assist in developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs. Assist students and teaching staff with implementing IEPs and behavior management plans. Monitor and document student progress, activities, outcomes, and educational goals. Identify individual student abilities, challenges, and educational needs. Collaborate with administrators, general education teachers, specialists, parents, and other members of the educational team. Coordinate with outside agencies and organizations when appropriate to support student needs. Provide guidance and support that promotes student growth, self-understanding, independence, and positive behavioral development. Serve as a liaison between students, families, and the school. Maintain a safe, structured, and positive learning environment. Ensure student records and educational documentation are maintained accurately and confidentially.
