Job Goal:
To provide opportunities for students to fulfill their potential for academic, artistic, athletic and social growth.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Support the regular educator by modifying curriculum for students eligible for special education.
- Work to ensure the rights of students with disabilities to be full participants in the general curriculum.
- Implement state and federal laws and regulations as they apply to special education.
- Participate in the development of and oversee implementation of IEPs for students eligible for special education.
- Incorporate the New Hampshire Frameworks and Grade Level Expectations into student's IEP
- Clearly communicate the learning objective and the importance of the learning to all students
- Utilizes research based teaching strategies and programs
- Supervise and support paraprofessionals as they implement instruction.
- Provide direct instruction to 1 to 1 paraprofessionals
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
- Translate lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a supportive learning environment in the classroom
- Evaluate and maintain data on students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports
- Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student's progress and interpret the school program
- Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problem
- Provide case management of IEP students
- Responsible for contact with parents and quarterly progress reports
- Consult with classroom teachers on a regular basis
- Work to improve student performance and support the district goal of improving standardized testing results by 5-7 percentage points each year

Qualifications:
- Meets all qualifications and behavior standards as set by the State of New Hampshire
- The minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
- A valid New Hampshire Teacher Certificate OR statement of eligibility with appropriate endorsement
- Professional verification of successful classroom teacher performance and/or student teaching experience
- Ability to work collaboratively to achieve the overall purposes of the school program
