We are dedicated to providing an innovative, rigorous education that prepares students for success in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields. Our community values inquiry, critical thinking, and real-world application of knowledge. The Role We are looking for a skilled educator to teach AP Research, the second year of the College Board's AP Capstone program. This is not a traditional classroom course — it is a year-long mentorship and writing coaching experience. Students conduct independent research in a topic of their choosing and produce a 4,000-5,000 word scholarly paper and a formal oral defense before a panel. This role has a strong English Language Arts component. Much of what you will do day-to-day is teach academic writing — structuring arguments, integrating sources, developing a scholarly voice, and revising drafts. Equally important is coaching students on choosing a viable, focused, and personally meaningful research topic. Helping a student find the right question is often the most critical work of the year. What You'll Do Coach students through the full research process, from identifying a gap in existing scholarship to completing a 4,000-5,000 word academic paper Guide students in choosing a focused, feasible research topic and question — one of the most important and time-intensive parts of the course Teach academic writing skills: structuring a research paper, integrating and citing sources, developing a scholarly voice, and revising through multiple drafts Prepare students for a formal oral presentation and defense before a panel, including coaching argumentation and presentation delivery Hold regular one-on-one Work-in-Progress (WIP) check-ins and review student Process and Reflection Portfolios (PREP) to monitor progress Facilitate peer reviews, Socratic seminars, and other collaborative learning activities Teach research ethics, proper citation, and the AP Capstone Academic Integrity Policy Complete the AP Summer Institute (APSI) for AP Research prior to or during your first year — required for all AP Capstone teachers
What We're Looking For Required:
Bachelor's degree; Master's degree preferred Teaching experience at the high school or college level Strong writing instruction skills — you are comfortable teaching academic writing and giving substantive feedback on student drafts Ability to mentor students through long-term independent projects Familiarity with research methods and citation styles (APA, MLA, etc.)
Preferred:
Valid New Hampshire teaching certification or eligibility Experience teaching AP Research, AP Seminar, or other AP courses Graduate-level research experience (thesis or dissertation) Background in ELA, writing instruction, or interdisciplinary humanities/STEM work Experience supporting independent student research projects Student Key Deliverables You will guide each student to successfully complete: An approved Inquiry Proposal Form (due October 23) A Process and Reflection Portfolio (PREP) maintained throughout the year
A 4,000-5,000
word scholarly research paper (due April 1) A formal oral presentation and defense before a panel (beginning April 14) AP Summer Institute (APSI) — Required All AP Capstone teachers are required to complete the College Board's AP Summer Institute for AP Research. Attendance at APSI is a condition of employment in this role and must be completed prior to or during the first year of teaching the course.
