Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Disabilities Teacher Job Summary:
Foster a nurturing and trusting academic environment in the classroom; Implement lesson plans that align with NJPTLS and Creative Curriculum in the delivery of daily academic instruction; Develop, and implement differentiated instruction that corresponds to the student's IEP goals and objectives; Document and analyze student performance data for progress monitoring purposes; Experience with implementing behavior modifications for both the whole class and individualized plans; Apply the district and schools' mission and vision; Utilize technology effectively in daily lessons; Assist students with toileting and hygiene practices; Ability to collaborate with administrators, Child Study Team members, related service providers, and other support staff to provide optimal student learning opportunities.
Qualifications:
Must have appropriate New Jersey Teacher of Students with Disabilities; In addition to having a valid New Jersey Preschool through Grade 3 Certification.
