A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Job Description

Special Education Teacher needed for a small, innovative education program for individuals with Autism in Bergen County, NJ. The position is a full-time, 12-month position.
Qualifications:
A minimum of a high school diploma is required. Preference will be given to those with experience in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include instructing individuals with autism, ages 3-21, in a wide variety of skill areas, including (but not limited to) language, social interaction, academic skills, daily-living skills, self-help and advocacy skills, recreation and leisure skills. Additional responsibilities include collecting and graphing data, communicating with colleagues and parents, and providing home support services to the family.
Compensation Package:
  • Salary commensurate with experience (minimum starting salary $40,000)
