A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Full Job Description Responsibilities:
Create engaging lesson plans that promote learning and development Provide early intervention and support for children with special needs Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment Conduct assessments to track children's progress and identify areas for improvement Collaborate with other classroom teachers to support children's educational goals Utilize effective teaching strategies to enhance literacy education Provide small group academic support as needed
Requirements:
Appropriate Certification for grade/subject area Successful prior teaching experience in grades K-8 and/or K-12 Must pass CHRU background check Must have recent Tuberculosis screening Nice to have: Previous experience working with children in a school setting Knowledge of childhood development principles and practices Familiarity with special education techniques and strategies Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of individual students Excellent organizational skills for lesson planning and classroom management Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with children ERESC is an
