JOB DESCRIPTION

Phillipsburg School District is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Special Education Teacher to serve in a self-contained Multiple Disabilities classroom for students in grades K-2. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to provide individualized instruction, implement behavioral and academic interventions, and create a supportive and nurturing learning environment that promotes student growth, communication, independence, and early academic success.

QUALIFICATIONS, MANDATORY

Valid New Jersey Teacher of the Handicapped (TOH) Certificate or Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TOSD) endorsement with appropriate elementary certification. Knowledge of early childhood and primary instructional practices differentiated instruction, and curriculum standards. Understanding of foundational literacy and numeracy instruction for students with diverse learning needs. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective classroom management and behavioral support systems. Commitment to creating a positive, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment. Strong communication and collaboration skills with students, staff, and families. Required criminal history background check and compliance with all state employment requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS, DESIRED

Experience working with primary-aged students with multiple disabilities and/or behavioral challenges. Ability to develop and implement individualized behavioral intervention strategies and support. Knowledge of New Jersey Special Education regulations, IEP development, and compliance procedures. Familiarity with active engagement instructional strategies, multisensory learning approaches, and developmentally appropriate practices. Experience collaborating within multidisciplinary teams, including related service providers and support staff. Ability to collect, analyze, and utilize student data to inform instruction and interventions.
