A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.
About the Role We are seeking a dedicated, creative, and passionate Middle School Literature Teacher to join our faculty. The ideal candidate will inspire students to become thoughtful readers, confident writers, and engaged learners while fostering a positive, inclusive, and academically rich classroom environment. This role is perfect for an educator who enjoys helping middle school students explore literature, strengthen comprehension skills, develop their writing voices, and make meaningful connections between texts and the world around them. Responsibilities The Middle School Literature Teacher will: Develop and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with school curriculum standards Provide instruction in literature, reading comprehension, vocabulary, and written expression Guide students in analyzing novels, short stories, poetry, nonfiction, and other literary works Teach students how to identify themes, literary elements, author's purpose, point of view, and text structure Incorporate creative writing, discussion, projects, and critical-thinking activities into instruction Create a supportive, inclusive, and faith-centered classroom atmosphere that encourages student participation and academic growth Assess student progress through assignments, essays, projects, exams, class discussions, and other evaluation methods Provide meaningful feedback to help students improve reading, writing, and analytical skills Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, and administrators Use creative teaching methods to enhance student learning, comprehension, and engagement Provide individualized support, tutoring, enrichment, or intervention for students who need additional assistance or challenge Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary learning and student success Maintain accurate records of student progress, grades, attendance, and classroom performance Support the mission and values of the school community Qualifications Qualified candidates should have: Bachelor's degree in Education, English, Literature, Language Arts, or a related field Teaching certification/license in the relevant subject area preferred Strong knowledge of literature, reading instruction, writing instruction, and curriculum development Experience teaching, mentoring, or tutoring middle school students Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to create a positive, structured, and engaging classroom environment Familiarity with creative writing techniques and strategies for developing student voice Knowledge of differentiated instruction and special education practices Ability to support students with diverse learning needs Proficiency in lesson planning, assessment, classroom management, and education administration practices Patience, flexibility, creativity, and a genuine passion for literature and student growth Preferred Experience Previous teaching experience in middle school English, Literature, Reading, or Language Arts Experience with novel studies, writing workshops, grammar instruction, and literary analysis Familiarity with Catholic education or faith-based school communities Experience supporting students through tutoring, intervention, or enrichment Ability to incorporate technology, projects, and discussion-based learning into instruction What We Offer We offer a supportive and welcoming school community, opportunities for professional growth, and the chance to make a meaningful impact in the lives of middle school students.
