Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding opportunity as a lead educator in a K-8 setting, serving as the Intensive Learning Community Lead Teacher in a self-contained classroom supporting students with significant disabilities. Enjoy a consistent 37.5-hour workweek at a single campus, with your contract spanning from August 3, 2026, through June 4, 2027. In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive instruction and leadership for a caseload of up to 10 students—many of whom are on the autism spectrum and require substantial support in communication, social skills, behavior, adaptive skills, academics, and motor development. You will also supervise and mentor a team of 2-3 dedicated aides, ensuring smooth classroom operations and ongoing consistency for your students. Ideal candidates have a demonstrated passion for working with children who have significant disabilities and experience utilizing AAC devices and other adaptive tools. The environment demands a structured yet flexible approach, empathy, and a commitment to nurturing each student's abilities in a highly supportive atmosphere.
Qualifications and Skills:
Valid special education teaching credential/license Experience teaching in self-contained or substantially separate classrooms Familiarity with supporting children who have limited verbal abilities and require intensive supports, including AAC devices Strong leadership skills and previous supervisory experience preferred Knowledge of structured routines, behavior interventions, and academic adaptations for diverse learners Flexibility, patience, and excellent communication skills
