GENERAL JOB
It is a priority that the Special Education and Gifted Education Teacher work in collaboration with parents, students, ancillary staff, and regular education teachers to promote student achievement. They will provide guidance and instructional experiences that are academically and developmentally appropriate through a variety of settings, services and supports as determined suitable for each student assigned. QUALIFICATIONS
1. 1. Bachelor's degree. 2. Current New Mexico teaching license with endorsements as required. 3. Ability to perform essential job functions and job task requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Demonstrates knowledge of the content area and approved curriculum.
- Utilizes a variety of teaching methods and resources for each area taught.
- Communicates with and obtains feedback from students in a manner that enhances student learning and understanding.
- Comprehends the principles of student growth, development, and learning, and applies them appropriately.
- Utilizes student assessment techniques and procedures.
- Manages the educational setting in a manner that promotes positive student behavior and safe and healthy environment.
- Recognizes student diversity and creates an atmosphere conducive to the promotion of positive student involvement and self-concept.
- Demonstrates a willingness to examine and implement change, as appropriate.
- Works productively with colleagues, parents, and community members.
- Follows board policies and administrative rules and regulations.
- Provides for the direct supervision of students at all times.
SPECIAL EDUCATION AND GIFTED EDUCATION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate with regular education teachers to monitor progress and compliance
- Maintain IEPs, progress reports and progress monitoring for caseload within required timelines
- Develop and implement IEPs with measurable goals using progress monitoring
- Conduct IEP meetings within timelines
- Maintain current understanding of federal and state compliance and regulations
- Participate in professional development, trainings, district and site level meetings as scheduled
- Maintain accurate and compliant data
- Complete all special/gifted education paperwork accurately according to regulations, and on time
- Develop and monitor appropriate transition plans for students of transition age
- Maintain communication and collaboration with Related Service providers and case managers to ensure compliance of service
- Support regular education teachers with knowledge of and strategies to meet the needs of inclusive practices
- Manage/monitor flexible scheduling to meet student needs
- Help correctly identify students need of service
- Other duties as assigned.
