Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding contract opportunity guiding a dynamic K-8 self-contained classroom designed to support students with significant disabilities. In this Intensive Learning Community Lead Teacher position, you will play a vital role in shaping daily routines and providing individualized support. You'll oversee a dedicated team of 2-3 aides and manage a class of up to 10 students, nurturing their development in communication, social skills, academics, motor skills, and adaptive behaviors. Your expertise will foster a compassionate and structured environment where every child's specific needs are understood and met. You'll be instrumental in implementing evidence-based practices and utilizing communication technologies, such as AAC devices, for learners with limited verbal abilities. This assignment runs from August 3, 2026, through June 4, 2027, at a single-site school located in a welcoming community near Pecos, NM, with a 37.5-hour work week.
Desired Qualifications & Skills:
Valid Special Education teaching certification or relevant credentials Experience working with students who have significant disabilities, particularly autism Proficiency with AAC devices and alternative communication strategies Strong leadership skills, able to coordinate and guide support staff Firm understanding of structured teaching methods, positive behavior supports, and individualized curriculum planning Ability to create an environment of predictability, empathy, and encouragement Flexible mindset to adapt to varying classroom needs and routines
